20hr Introduction to Trauma-Informed Yoga & Movement Facilitation

with Kathy Taylor

Saturday 22nd – Sunday 23rd February &
Saturday 8th – Sunday 9th March

We at Good Folk Yoga are
so excited to offer another 20-hour introduction to trauma-informed yoga and movement facilitation course with the incredible Kathy Taylor.

Kathy is a trauma-informed yoga and movement facilitator, trauma-informed personal trainer, founder of Exhale and Be and founder of Every Felt Sense.

What is Trauma-Informed Yoga?

Trauma-informed yoga and movement acknowledge the neurological impacts of trauma (physical, psychological, emotional, complex), and the high instances of survivors experiencing a disconnection from their physical bodies. This approach is people-centred and explorative. The focus is on what is felt, noticing the sensations, and learning to make choices that begin to rebuild trust between body and mind.

Over time, trauma-informed yoga and movement can help folks to:

• regulate their nervous system

• reduce and better manage anxiety

• improve body awareness and tolerance for physical sensations

• increase psychological flexibility.

What will I learn?

  • The definition and types of trauma, including acute, chronic, complex, vicarious, intergenerational and transgenerational

  • Trauma-informed space holding considerations that promote body autonomy

  • The difference between trauma-informed yoga and trauma-sensitive yoga, specifically Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY)

  • Small trauma-informed shifts that may be integrated into yoga/movement facilitation and the way we hold space

  • How knowledge of variable anatomy may support folks in understanding our bodies are all different

  • The vagus nerve and Polyvagal theory

  • The Window of Tolerance

  • Attachment theory

  • Trauma and the brain

Please note this course is an introduction to trauma-informed yoga and movement facilitation. It is not a training. At the end of the course you will be trauma aware (not a trauma-informed yoga teacher) i.e. you will have a foundational awareness and understanding of trauma, its impact and pervasive nature. You will also learn small shifts in how you facilitate and the way you hold space that support folks who experience/have experienced trauma.

How will the course be structured?

The course will run over two weekends from 11.15am - 4.30pm. Each day will begin with a 60-minute trauma-informed yoga and movement practice. We will then spend the day learning alongside each other, there will be time for self-reflection and also for practice facilitation if that feels useful for you. There will be no assessments or compulsory feedback.

Do I need to be a yoga/movement facilitator to attend?
